Last night camping @ Blomidon Provincial Park before a heavy push to get back home. Spent the next night in a cheap hotel in Yarmouth, caught the Nova Star Ferry back to Portland, Maine and high tailed it to "Stonehaven" near Phonecia NY for my GF's woodland art opening. Goodnight Canada!
Something like, the fastest and highest tides in the world? You can raft the first wave of tide as it rolls in, I arrived too late. The tide is so extreme boats just sit in the mud until the tide comes back in.
Five island provincial park. Back to regular camp sites. Empty tonight at least.
Back to Nova Scotia after a 14 hour ferry. Spent most of it at the bar getting to know my new pals, Joseph & Aline, who rode all the way up from Florida! Check out their blog: www.wanderingidiots.com
Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America. Couldn't see much of it that day,
"Lady Pond" & "Second Pond" Love the wood milling huts, fantasies of milling my own cabin lumber...
By far, the best camp spot on the trip (Cape Saint George would have been the best if it wasn't for the miserable rain). After my first night here, I drove 2 hours ahead to my next planned stop, and decided to drive back and camp here another night. Amazing views. Not sure I was allowed to be here, there are vehicle trails that should definitely not be re-driven (if you care about preserving the landscape) but there is a small gravel area where you can set up without damaging the vegetation..
I built a drawer system in back, opted to remove one of the drawers in order to fit a drone case on this trip. Then I built a middle section that bolts to the rear drawers. This middle section stores upside-down on the roof with no loss of storage while carrying other passengers. Notice the interior roof rack / shelf with LED-lights, fans for ventilation and various areas for storage under and around the platform. The sleeping pad is not an air-mattress, its no B.S. cozy foam, rolled, compressed and stored in a simple waterproof roof bag. A bit bulky to bring along the entire way but since it ads almost no weight it was no big deal to throw on the roof.
You take a short ferry to get out to Fogo Island. It must have been one of the first few cars off that ferry that I soon caught up to, a car rolled of the road, with a woman injured in the passenger seat, family members frantically trying to get the ambulance crew to help. I asked if there was anything I could do but they didn't need me. So I went ahead, shaken, and reminded that an adventure can turn sour quick. Fogo is a beautiful place where a busy fishing industry lives next do a modern artist residency program. One of the locals moved away long ago, made millions in "the internet" and returned on a mission to help to the island. The $850 / night hotel (2 night minimum) and ultra-modern cabins / art residencies dotted around the island make it a really interesting place to visit. I skipped the fancy hotel and found a nice little camp site by a lake. I got some great drone footage at several of the cabin sites. Annnnd I crashed my drone at one of them. Damn. Well, that's why I brought 2.
Amazing camp spot overlooking the ocean.
Mr Dildo must have been an important figure in NS / NF history. There are a few places with the namesake. Or else Canadians just aren't ashamed to talk about sex toys?
